Scaled to fail

Turning big water problems into small understandable stories

In the Netherlands, we like to think we’re in control of water. But that confidence is starting to crack. Flooding, drinking water shortages and water pollution are becoming a bigger and more immediate part of life.

Still, for many people, these problems remain hard to see and even harder to grasp. They feel distant, abstract and easy to put aside. So how do you make complex water challenges land in an instant?

We made them literally small. In handcrafted miniature worlds, we turned large-scale water problems into something visible, tangible and easy to understand. By using scale as our storytelling device, we showed how water moves, how fast situations can escalate, and how much is at stake. What felt far away suddenly played out right in front of you.

Online & Social

As an always-on series, these films build a shared understanding of water risks over time. By making them visible in simple, relatable ways, water problems become part of everyday reality. And that lays the groundwork for future campaigns that ask people to act.

A new umbrella brand

Alongside the always-on films, we introduced the new umbrella brand Leven met water, which will serve as the foundation for all water-related communication in the years ahead. I was responsible for the name and the development of the brand identity.
